My Background
I grew up in
Rivedal (Sunnfjord), a small place at the west coast of Norway. The surroundings are typical for the West of Norway, deep fjords and high mountains,
but beautiful nature was not enough to keep me there.
After moving to Oslo, I worked for 6 years in Forenede Økonomer AS, a company that offer
accounting and economy help to customers. My line of work included
a lot of different tasks besides economy, and I learned a lot.
For two years I studied economy part time at BI (Norwegian school of Management), but I have always wanted to learn more about interacting with computers,
and after working my last two years in the company
as a system supervisor as a part of my job, I decided what I wanted to do most of all.
I quit my job and headed for the
small town of Halden, and the regional college called Høyskolen i Østfold where I studied
Software Design/Developement for three years. In those three years I learn
a lot about Internet and network related stuff and I did a lot of
different projects
In the
summerhollidays I worked hard too, and one of my jobs was at ICES AS
(International Carriere and Education Services), the company behind
KarriereGuiden Go. The people there where old acquaintanteces, and I
helped them start the jobbseeking site www.jobshop.no.
I was also working for NRK, the largest Norwegian broadcasting
institution. I was working on several projects including CU-SeeMe and
Mbone broadcast of Ski VM 97, making webpages and livestreaming of the
new digital radio channel Alltid
Nyheter and creating and internal radioprogramservice called RadioFlak. I was
also redesigning Uninett's Norwegian CU-SeeMe pages.
Well all the hours I've invested
in htmltagging and design of my homepage finally paid off. I won the
second price for best homepage made by a girl here in Norway. The jury was
3 webdesigners from the monthly womens magazine Det
Nye.
The price was 5000 NOK in clothing, an that was a good thing for me
when I started searching for a job.
Istarted working for ConCrea/IBM in
July 97 and after 2 moths of training, I was a Lotus Notes application
developer. My first project was to create an Intranet for Aker Maritime, Aker Maritime is a
multilocal group of companies with around 14 000 employees in more than
20 countries, and they focus on advanced technology from the North Sea and
Gulf of Mexico. They needed an Intranet to connect all of their emplyees
and different project, and using Lotus Notes, I spent 9 months working
together with their project team to create the Intranet solution.
My current project is one of IBM's largest e-business project. I'm working
together with 2 other programmers to create a product and price
information system for all producers in the
construction business in Norway. For more information: www.varedata.no
...and my life continues!

My Interests
I have always been a creative
person, and for many years,
I have enjoyed drawing and painting.
Painting in oil was one of my most enjoyable ways of wasting time a few
years back, and here is one of my pieces
(Click for a lager image).
Unfortunately time is precious, and one must make priorities, and a busy schedule leaves
little time for painting nowadays, but I am not really sorry about this,
because I have found a new and exciting way for me to creative, and I find it dermanding enough to hold my interest.
What I am talking about is that I like to use Adobe Photoshop and other graphical programs to design and create layouts, pictures and images, and some of them I use in my own
Web pages.
You can look for yourself starting with the page called
D e n A n d r e S i d e n
Traveling around the world is fun,
and I prefer to do that in person, not just by WWW. I have been to
the US twice (Michigan, Chicago and Orlando), South of Spain twice, and
once in Greece to enjoy the sun and the sea. I went on a wild
Jeep Safari too, and our driver was a swedish rallycar chauffeur. Here is a picture of me and my friend
Sissel, at Kato Daratso, the place
we stayed. My last vacation was in Italy, and I visited Rome and Napoli.
Sorrento was my favorite place, and Pompeii was special.
Reading good books is one of my favorite pastimes. I read all kinds of books from Dean Koontz
to Shakespeare. I like books with new angles and original plots, or of historical character. I have always liked things that are original and somewhat different both in books and in movies. Some
of my favorite authors are: Ken Follet, Jane Austen, Jeffery Archer,
as mentioned Dean Koontz, Steven King, Nicolas Evans, Jean M. Auel, Pauline Gedge, John Grisham, James Redfield and more ....
I think lack of imagination and fantasy is boring. I don't know if this has a link to my name.
I got my name from a French cartoon called Linette that was popular when I was born.
It is not a usual name in Norway, and I have had people telling me all of my life that they have never heard my name before.
I appreciate having an original name, and credit my fathers twin sisters for talking my parents into calling me Linette, even though they had to argue with the priest when baptizing
me.
Other things I enjoy are good
movies.
I like variation on my movie menu, and I alternate between different kinds
of movies. I watch special effects movies, action movies, science fiction movies like Star Wars,
Walt Disney movies,
warm heartmoving movies, and classics like Gone with
the wind and Casablanca. I must admit that my favorites are
movies that has an element of surprice, and I think
Quentin Tarantino is the best at this.
The last one of his that I have seen is the movie Jackie Brown, but
George Clooney was really cool in From Dusk
till Dawn. If you are interested in watching quicktime trailers from the
net, and you have Netscape 3.0 or better, then try my new Javascript project called Among the Stars.
There are also a few tv-series that I watch more or less whenever I remember their on. My
favorites are ER, Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld, Ally McBeal and Babylon 5.
My taste in music is also varied.
I like Lighthouse Family, Alanis Morisette and such, and I like U2,
George Michael, Sting and Billy Joel.
I am also a fan of Luciano Pavarotti an Placido Domingo and soft classical music.
And least but non the less, I love animals, and especially dogs. I think dalmatians are funny looking dogs with a great personality.
